Hip Key – On the Floor

Hip Key – On the Floor

Hip key on the floor! I know, it’s not the same. But if you are working on the hip key, it will help you understand the pathway. If you are refining your hip key, it can help you pay attention to knee extension, toe point, and timing. Of course, the floor will never be the air. If you didn’t see my last post, it’s for you aerialists who still have the option to get on apparatus.

  • Prop yourself up on your elbows and contract your core. Bring your right leg straight up.
  • Hover your left leg just off the ground and sweep it to the right. Think about your right side-body as you do this.
  • Pick up the imaginary fabric on your real thigh, and then sweep the left leg back over and up. Match your feet in the air. Look up at them. This is what you want to see when you do a hip key on fabric. Two matched feet.
  • Fan the right and then the left leg over.
